DEADLINE, DATE A date prior to an event selected for final acceptance of entries. This deadline may come before a numerical limit is reached.
DEADLINE, NUMERICAL A numerical limit selected for final acceptance of entries. This deadline may come before the date given for final entries.
DECISION Any official disposition of a complaint, score, excusal, dismissal or disqualification.
DELAYED COURSE Where a handler or hound creates a time lag in the continuity of the Trial. A 1-5 (AKC) or 1-10 (ASFA) point penalty may be assessed.
DID NOT RUN (DNR) A Judges' decision that a hound has no intention of running the lure or refuses to leave the line. This hound will be marked Excused and may not run any more that day.
DISMISSED A Judges' decision that one hound has interfered with another causing the second hound to waver from course or to be intimidated either aggressively or playfully. Growling and/or barking alone do not constitute grounds for dismissal.
DISTANCE The proscribed length of the course to be not less than 500 yards.
DISQUALIFIED (DQ) A Judges' decision that one hound has been aggressive toward another. Both judges must agree. If only one DQ's a hound, this is construed as a Dismissal. Only the aggressor is DQ'd.
DRAG LINE A lure line which is reeled in and restrung thru the pulleys after every course.
DRAW A random selection to determine the order in which the hounds will run.
DRAW ORDER/SLIPS Notification to the handler of the order of run and blanket color for each hound. Sometimes there are written on small slips of paper or are posted on a Score Board.
DUAL CHAMPION
--AKC/ASFA
A hound who has achieved a Field Championship and a Conformation Championship. This is printed as a prefix on AKC documents.
DUAL TITLISTS--ASFA A hound who has achieved a Field Championship and any of the following: AKC Obedience Title; AWC Award of Racing Merit certificate; NOTRA Oval Racing Champion certificate; NOFCA Coursing Champion or Courser of Merit award; NACA Coursing Champion or Courser of Merit award.

ENDURANCE One of the categories for judging. Refers to the physical stamina of the hound.
ENTHUSIASM One of the categories for judg- ing. Refers to a hound's overall interest in coursing the lure.
ENTRY FEE The amount per hound assessed to cover Club expenses for the Test/Trial.
ENTRY FORM The document accompanying the Entry Fee giving the information on the hound necessary to create a point and placement file. This information to include Breed, Call Name, Registered Name, which Stake, Date of Birth, Sex, AKC (or other) Number, Name/Address of Actual Owner(s) and signature of the owner or agent.
EXCUSED A hound may be excused for a number of reasons: Did Not Run; Hound Coursed Other Hound; Handler Interference; Hound Delayed Course; Hound Unfit to Compete; and Other. A Judge must indicate for which offense the hound is Excused. A hound Excused in the Preliminary runs will not count toward points for the other hounds. Excused in the Final runs will count.
EXHIBIT ONLY A hound may be designated Exhibit Only, will run alone for no points and will not count toward points for other participants. Entry fees and stipulations are the same as for regular entries. See Single Stake.
EXHIBITOR Same as Handler, Owner/Handler, Participant.

The official publication for ASFA
FIELD CHAIRMAN Must be a member of the Host Club; works closely with the Trial Secretary and Lure Operator. See Assignments.
FIELD CLERK (F/C) A member of the Field Committee. See Assignments.
FIELD COMMITTEE Consists of all members on the Premium List. These people are responsive to Protests and Regulation violations. Also, Field Crew.
FIELD CREW See Field Committee.
FIELD REPRESENTATIVE An individual appointed by the national organization to oversee and report on each club's ability to hold Lure Test/Trial events and to make recommendations for improvements.
