| POINTS,
AKC |
Points are based
on the number of hounds defeated according to a
changing (generally annually) scale. (See Rules
and Regulations for current point schedule.) To
attain Field Champion, a hound must earn 15
points with two majors. |
| POOPER-SCOOPER |
This is a
"Yes-Yes"! And a MUST USE! |
| POSITION |
The assignment
given to an individual for a given event |
| POST/POSTING |
To display certain
data pertinent to the Trial. |
| PRACTICE
|
An unstructured
field activity similar to a hound/owner picnic
with a short lure course of limited turns for
retraining, starting new puppies and conditioning
summer couch-potato hounds. |
| PRELIMINARY,
PRELIMINARIES, PRELIM(S) |
The first runs.
The scores are tallied and those hounds given
zero, Excused, Dismissed or Disqualified in the
Preliminary are removed from the Draw for Finals. |
| PREMIUM
LIST (P/L) |
The instructional
document giving Who-What-Where and When details
on an upcoming Lure Event. |
| PRE-SLIP |
When a hound is
slipped before the T of Tally-Ho. The Huntmaster
shall notify the Judges for their decision to add
a Penalty or not. |
| PROTESTS,
ASFA/AKC |
An arduous process
for both Owner/Handler and the Host Club. A
protest must be in writing, accompanied by $25.00
filing fee during trial hours. The Field
Committee must make a ruling in writing before
end of Trial and shall send the filing fee,
protest and written ruling to the national
organization within 14 days of the Trial.
Protests upheld by the Field Committee will
reimburse the filing fee to protestor. For
further information, consult the Running Rules
and Field Procedures for Lure Field Trials (ASFA)
or Regulations for Lure Coursing Test and Trials
(AKC). |
| PULLEY
|
The
device around which the lure and line flow. The
pulley keeps the course in position and allows
for smooth, safe operation.
|
|
|
| QUALIFYING
SCORE |
A hound must
receive a score equal to at least 50% of the
total possible combined scores. For example, each
judge may score a maximum of 100 per stake, thus
two judges means it would require a final tally
of 200 or more to have a qualifying score. It yet
may not earn a placement due to higher cumulative
scores on other hounds. In AKC, 50% for two
judges would be a score of 100. |

Any of the
following breeds: Afghan, Basenji, Borzoi,
Greyhound, Ibizan, Irish Wolfhound, Pharaoh,
Rhodesian Ridgeback, Saluki, Scottish Deerhound,
or Whippet as defined by AKC and ASFA. ASFA
recently (1999) added the Italian Greyhound,
Asawak and Sloughi forming a Miscellaneous Class
in over 18.5 inches and under 18.5 inches; AKC
(2000) also added the Italian Greyhound in the
Sighthound category, making it eligible for the
AKC Coursing Program. |
| SINGLE
STAKE |
If noted in the
Premium List, the Host Club may offer this stake.
The hound will run alone and no points will be
awarded. The same hound is not eligible to also
run in an Open or Field Champion Stake on the
same day. Placement will be based on the combined
scores and the winner of this stake is not
eligible to compete in Best-of-Breed or
Best-In-Field. Entry fees and stipulations are
the same as for regular entries. See Exhibit
Only. |
