PRE-BREEDING PROTOCOLS
For Males and Females

For Females: Begin Diary immediately. Include breeding activity, heat cycle notes and incidents, shot record, the use of Program-type flea control, etc., pertinent to her fertility, i.e., any antibiotics, infections, injuries.
For Males: Begin Diary. Note any use of Program-type flea control, flea dips and/or antibiotics particularly within 60 days prior to planned breeding. This can adversely affect productivity.
All shots to be updated a minimum of 90 days prior to heat/breeding.
Worm 90 days prior to estimated pre-heat/breeding.
Tests to be done 6 months (optimally) before breeding: vWD percentages and thyroid balance, T3/T4, Free T3/T4, Iron levels and PRA certification. If hound is over age 2, OFA certification is required and must rate Good or Excellent.
Corrective measures to begin immediately upon discovery of any thyroid or iron imbalance or other indications of a low immune system.
Statistics to be forwarded to Sunstag for evaluation of the pairing.
Stud or dam selection will be based on most of the evaluation as given.
Outside bitches/studs must comply with these protocols to be bred to any Sunstag hound

PRE-/POST WHELPING PROTOCOLS

Note in a diary all activity, temperature readings and incidents pertinent to the bitch.
X-rays of the dam to be taken on the 58th day of gestation from last breeding (if bred three times, use the middle date for count to Day-63). Dam owner has option to use ultrasound over X-rays. This is to (A) validate the pregnancy and (B) to ascertain the quantity of puppies for which to be prepared
Three days prior to estimated whelp date, begin 250mg Ampicillin a.m. and p.m. (or 400 mg Amoxicillin one time per day). This is to continue for 5 days following whelp.
All puppies are to be color coded at birth using knitting yarn. This yarn must be changed daily and data for puppies should be recorded by those colors.
Birth weights are to be recorded on Whelping Record Sheet with comments regarding white markings, breech or not, and any other information deemed important to future whelpings by this dam
At age Two to Three Days, all dew claws are to be removed. Bitch to be checked by the veterinarian and given an oxy-/pitocin shot if needed.
Keep litter notes on each puppy with daily weight gains/losses, activity level, when eyes opened, and informative observations which can be referred to in Three days prior to estimated whelp date, begin 250mg Ampicillin a.m. and p.m. (or 400 mg Amoxicillin one time per day). This is to continue for 5 days following whelp.

Individual health records for Buyers are to be kept with weekly weights, shots, any medications (for worms, coccidia, \tab etc.), or accidents from age 3 weeks until placed.
Copy of List of Buyers to be given to Stud Owner--REQUIRED by AKC.

This statement is only a guarantee of the actual mating (ties) and not of pregnancy or of puppies living or dead. If the bitch fails to whelp, a return service will be given by this stud at the next convenient heat. Should either the stud or bitch be unable to complete this agreement for return service due to health, change of ownership or proximity, both parties agree to waive fees due or to renegotiate exchange participant(s). A litter will be defined as one or more puppies surviving to age 8 weeks.
Stud owner may select either of the following options in the time frame from breeding to 8 weeks following whelping. If bitch fails to conceive or there are no live puppies as defined above, a return service will be provided at this bitch's next convenient heat (conditions noted above)
FEES

( )	Stud Owner gets their Pick of Litter, provided Stud Owner choice is opposite to Bitch Owner's choice. IF: (A) two to nine puppies survive to age 8 weeks; (B) first and third picks if 10 or more puppies survive to age 8 weeks. If only one puppy survives to age 8 weeks, Stud Owner will receive $1,000.00 and time- &/or condition-limited co-ownership of the survivor. Stud Owner is to select, collect and acquire registration on the puppy(s) or cash by age 12 weeks.
( )	CASH PAYMENT IN FULL upon verification of pregnancy or whelping of live litter. Return service would be permitted in the event of no live get. (Service Fee still required.)
( )	STUD FEE of $__________ to be paid at $500.00 when litter is whelped. Balance of $__________ due 12 weeks after whelping of live litter as defined above.
( )	STUD FEE of $ ________ to be paid with one-half of each puppy price received going to Stud Owner as puppies are sold until full stud fee amount is paid. Final payment due 12 weeks after whelping date.
	NOTE: IF...
( )	Only two puppies survive to 8 weeks, Stud Owner may opt to co-own both survivors with breeder(s) of record as balance of fee, or may solely own Stud Owner's Pick of Litter. (A separate time-limited contract would be negotiated in the case of co-owning both puppies.)
( )	On return breeding, there are still no live puppies surviving to 8 weeks, this agreement becomes Void. A new contract will be required for additional servicing by Sunstag.
